So let’s begin


Your hair basically undergoes three different stages of its overall life.


“Anagen, Catagen, Telogen”


I know, big tough words, let’s beat them down to a pulp.



It is also commonly referred to as the growth phase or sometimes even the active phase. This phase of the hair growth cycle affects takes place 85% at any time and lasts approximate 1 to 6 years to complete one cycle. The longer the hair, the longer this cycle.


Right after the end of the Anagen phase, hair growth stops, this is also known as the Catagen phase and takes roughly 2 or 3 weeks to fully complete the cycle. In this phase no new hair grows and the hair follicle shrinks to 1/6th of its original size.


This is the resting phase for the hair follicle, it lasts roughly 10 – 12 weeks and 10-15% of your hair is always at the Telogen resting phase.

It is possible that 3 strands of hair in the same region of hair can be in the Anagen, Catagen and Telogen phase

Then it goes back to the Anagen phase and creates a never ending cycle of hair growth.


Yes never ending, it may slow down but never stops.

The frequently occurring, type of hair-loss is

  • Androgenetic alopecia,
  • Telogen effluvium,
  • Anagen effluvium
  • Traction alopecia.

Androgenetic alopecia:

Androgenetic alopecia is a growing factor that is affects a vast majority of women all over the globe. As the name suggests it is a form of alopecia that is affiliated with your genetics. This is actually a hereditary factor and affects almost 50% of women by the time they are touching their 50’s.






Telogen Effluvium:

We lose around 100 stands of our hair on a daily basis. As the name suggests Telogen Effluvium, when the body undergoes physical or mental stress or trauma our bodies stop providing energy to the part of the bodies that have been traumatized and start neglecting the hair.

This is done by increasing the Telogen phase that is the hair resting phase




Anagen Effluvium:

Anagen effluvium is hair shedding that takes place during the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle. This is somewhat relatable  to telogen effluvium.

Anagen effluvium’s symptoms include extremly abrupt shedding of a large sum of the hair, and in some extreme cases from other regions of the body including eyebrows and eyelashes.



Traction alopecia:

This is commonly due to over-styling. Traction Alopecia occurs when you style your hair in such a way that tends to pull back on your hair causing your hair to get weaker and then eventually begin to fall out.

This is quite sadly one very big issue that many women and young girls are facing today. It is sad because of how avoidable this is.
